Progress
Watching my footage over and over again trying to create a sequence that will give my final product the effect I want is not as easy as I thought it would be. Currently having a mental block of how my story line wants to go.
But I feel that it's coming soon, I did plan my initial story board before even filming but with fourth thoughts of it I really didn't think it'd give that BIG impact I wanted.

Major Project Progress
So far I've had a few problems with trying to contact mural and graffiti artists because some like to stay anonymous while some straight up rejected my requests for an interview. However, I've managed to email a whole new group of artists so I'm praying that at least one or two reply with a yes.
Also, it's also very difficult to film myself while by the streets for graffiti because it's really dangerous with the heavy traffic. It's also very noisy so my voice isn't that clear, even with the mic. So I decided to just not include myself for the roadside shootings and just do voice overs.
*Update - 19th May*
Frustrated at artist for not replying. I need their inside scoop on how they feel and why they're doing what they're doing to confirm my beliefs on the beautiful movement they're creating in Malaysia. I need people to see that.

Filming: Klang River, opposite Central Market.
I managed to get some footage of the walls by the man-made river and a bit from the streets on KL while walking..
I found a beautiful mural DIRECTED next to the river..which I found interesting..
And even possible Malaysia Banksy?
This day of filming was very interesting because I actually had to climb down to the river which was actually terrifying. I also had the chance of just walking around the city looking for graffiti, while doing that I also noticed a lot of interesting details about the city.

Filming Part One: The streets of SS2, PJ.
After researching on mural art sites and asking around about local graffiti. I came across a site that explained how the community of SS2 recently had a 'beautifying competition' and invited mural artist from all over to participate.
I decided I wanted to film here, because it was new and surprisingly, other than the residents of SS2, not much people have seen them...
Filming these were really fun, however, the mural artists I contacted have either refused to be interviewed or have not replied me at all. That was obviously a very frustrating obstacle.. Because both types of artist are very difficult to trace and find... or just plain rude.

As Mr Charles mentioned, a good documentary has a strong story line and a deep connection with the audience.
So why does mural art and graffiti relate? It's everywhere, literally. The streets of Kuala Lumpur are plastered with them.

So why does mural art and graffiti relate? It's everywhere, literally. The streets of Kuala Lumpur are plastered with them.
So what is my documentary about?
Well, obviously graffiti and mural art. But what about them?
I had a few questions in my head I wanted to answer with my documentary.
What's the difference?
Aren't they both just paintings on the wall by the side of the road?
People see mural art as a way to make a space aesthetically pleasing.
But graffiti is done by uneducated losers who ruin public property?
Why is mural art called an art form, but graffiti a form of vandalism?
*Update - 28th April*
Everyone's started deciding on themes and as I was thinking about mine. And while studying a topic like graffiti, I need to make my documentary raw.
Where I get gritty with the details and create something controversial as I believe it's the perfect way to portray the essence of my topic. It has to be rough, and not everyone has to like it.

My rough idea of the video outline is slowly coming together. I've began to sketch out how everything was going to work together from title screen to end.
On another note, I've began to plan out my interview questions for the general public and hopefully a few mural artist (if I can contact any, most of them are anonymous).

Mr Charles also has noted that our presentation has to be complimented with rheotorics and eccentricity. This will be an interesting element and may be a challenge.

After considering a few topics, from fashion to graffiti design. I had a bit of a block in my train of thoughts. So I decided to turn away from the more 'urban' topics and try something new. My selected topic would be the Evolution of Architecture and Design from around the world because I feel that this topic is very interesting to me. It would also be beneficial me with more in depth knowledge of the world of architecture and design, which is obviously relevant to my aspiring future career. With this topic I will explore the different eras of art from the Stone Age right up to the present Contemporary era of our time. It will be a short film of how each era influences the one after it in one way or another. (and maybe it could predict what the future looks like?)
What makes it interesting?
It seems to be a pretty boring topic, doesn't it? But I believe there's a little artistic nerd in everyone. And it will be the challenge trying to educate the audience while keeping it interesting. With hopefully incorporating a bit of intrigue (and humour?) to keep their attention throughout.
UPDATE;
Being stuck in a mental block for about 2 weeks, I've decided to go pass this topic and move on to Mural Art in Malaysia.
Mural Art in Malaysia is surprisingly very common and very beautiful. But unfortunately, a lot of these pieces are not noticed by the general public because no one knows about it. So I've decided to base my documentary on this because I feel that it would be very interesting for the viewers based on curiosity and it might also draw more attention to the anonymous masterpieces.
One of the main locations I will be basing my documentary on is the Artsphere 20/8ty. It's a mural art park filled with a diverse collection of mural art.

Exercise; Pictures with strong meaning
In this class Mr Charles instructed us to find photos online that had deep meaning in them. I found this topic very interesting because I know that nowadays many photographers and graphic designers produce a lot of these type of images with controversial backstories.
The first image I found on Pinterest was this interesting photo of a person holding up a torn side profile of a women smoking next to his/her face. This intrigued me in many ways, the first being that it was kind of unclear of the gender of the person behind the photo.
I personally feel this photo means a lot because the artist was trying to explain that people often hide the real them from the world and put on a fake cover.
The next two photos are illustrations from an artist, Rafael Alvarez.
This image is a very good representation of how the media has been controlling what we see in the news and the depth of true stories. Hiding a lot of things the public should know about.
Finally, one of my favourite photos would be this one. It shows that even though education is important, it may not be enough to survive in the difficult world we live in today that's been infested with competition and rivalry.

Major Project
In our first Contextual Studies class, Mr Charles began briefing us on what we were going to be doing for the semester. It is to basically create a documentary, animation or short film.
Mr Charles said that we basically have to create a story that had meaning, something that would connect with its audience. But the story we had to create also had to be relevant to our future degree programme.
UPDATE:
Unfortunately, I've been stuck with my topic and I can't seem to find a 'link' to the solution of my topic. So therefore I'm switching topics to Mural Art. Which I personally find very interesting because it's abstract and well, contextual because the art always has a message behind it.
